PROTOTYPE ASSESSMENTS

After plenty of time was spent on developing an invention idea, constructing this idea and designing it... the big day had come.

The Blackhawks knew they were creating inventions that were to be visually appealing, functional and durable. And so, over the course of three days this week, the Blackhawks got to see how well their invention prototype measured against the given criteria.

VISUALLY APPEALING

To determine if the Blackhawk prototypes were visually appealing, it was assessed by a panel of 2nd graders. These 2nd graders determined if the Blackhawk prototypes were in fact visually appealing and gave a reason why or why not.

FUNCTIONALITY

To determine if the Blackhawk prototypes were functional, each Blackhawk needed to explain their invention, and all of its parts, to a small panel of judges. If the judges had a clear understanding of the invention and how it was planned to work, the prototype would pass this portion of their assessment.

DURABILITY

To determine the durability of a prototype, each Blackhawk inventor went through a series activities with their invention. They included : jogging with their prototype, spinning with their prototype, tossing their prototype, jumping with their prototype, as well as having their prototype experience a slight impact. Inventors were able to track their durability ratings with a score sheet. Our goal was to pass as many durability assessments as possible.

Be sure to ask how your Blackhawk how they performed with their invention prototype!
